To all our patients

For the importance of the health and safety of all our staff and patients, it is with a heavy heart that we have decided to close the practice at 5.30pm today until further notice.

Whilst the practice is closed, if you need to contact us, please do so via our website, by email, by phone, or on Facebook. Please leave your name and the best contact telephone number and we will call you back.

We are reviewing the situation daily, often hourly, and as it develops. We will do our upmost to bring you the latest guidance, and advise when we can open our doors again to you.

For our contact lens wearers, rest assured, we will be ordering and posting your regular supply of contact lenses as usual. If you have spectacles on order, we will advise you when they are ready, and discuss the best option for collection or delivery.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and custom. We hope you and your family stay safe and well during this troubling period.

In case you were wondering if it is safe to come in to First Contact Opticians during these uncertain times, we wanted to get in touch and reassure you that the well-being of you and our team is an absolute priority.

Over the past few weeks we have implemented the usual and extra measures to ensure the highest level of health and hygiene standards are maintained.

We are monitoring the situation closely day by day - at the moment, we're operating business as usual and look forward to seeing you for your next appointment.

If you have a cold, a sniffle, a cough, fever or just not feeling well, firstly, we are sorry to hear this and wish you well. And secondly, should you have an appointment booked, we kindly ask that you reschedule this so that we can see you when you are feeling better.

So, in true First Contact Opticians style, we're staying positive, keeping calm, washing our hands and maintaining our usual high standard of service.

We are thrilled to announce that as part of our 25th anniversary celebrations and our continued commitment to enhance our services to our patients, the practice will be starting a complete refurbishment in December. Unfortunately, this means that we will be closing at 5.30pm on Saturday 14 December 2019. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you, but we are certain that you will be truly amazed with the results when we re-open at 9.00am on Monday 20 January 2020.

We want to be sure that you fully enjoy the festive period and to this end we would encourage you to order your contact lenses before Monday 2 December 2019 and when doing so please ensure that you have enough contact lenses to last you until the end of January 2020.

Whilst the practice is closed for refurbishment, should you need to contact us, we would recommend that you do so via email, or on Facebook. You will also be able to follow the progress of the refurbishment with our regular posts and updates on our Social media.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and custom.

We wish you a very Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year and we look forward to seeing you in 2020 in our exciting new practice.

With the clocks having gone back one hour, the nights are drawing in sooner. A common phrase we hear from our patients is "I struggle with glare from headlights on cars when driving at night". Luckily, we have a solution for this with the Essilor RoadPilot lens which comes with the a special finish called Crizal Drive - shown to reduce reflections by up to 90% for nighttime driving. The RoadPilot lens is available as either a single vision lens, or as a varifocal.

Some of our patients may have seen an article posted on the Daily Mail website yesterday evening regarding a faulty batch of contact lenses. We would like to reassure all of our patients that we have been in contact with Johnson & Johnson this morning and they have reassured us that none of our patients have been supplied with the defective lenses.

If you do have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at the practice.

This week is National Eye Health Week (23 to 29 September 2019) which is designed to promote the importance of eye health and the need for regular sight tests for all.

2 million people in the UK are living with sight loss, that is severe enough to have a significant impact on their daily lives. Approximately half of this sight loss could have been avoided with regular eye examinations.

Our First Contact Care Plan offers you the best way of keeping your eyes as healthy as possible with annual eye examinations, including highly sophisticated scans of the back of your eyes.
