As a Nikon vision centre we employ some of the latest computerised sight examination equipment. The determination of your prescription is carried using a Nikon OTA8 computerised refractor head. This eliminates the need for patients to wear a cumbersome trial spectacle frame and for our optometrist to manually replace trial lenses.

Our optometrist will use this state of the art digital camera to photograph the internal structures of your eyes. Using the latest computer software these images are displayed on screen so that the results may be discussed with you. The images are then stored for future reference. The images can also be sent to your GP for his/her records. Conditions like Diabetes and Glaucoma are best monitored with this type of camera system.

This sophisticated, computerised instrument allows us to map the peripheral vision of each eye. Visual Field Mapping (Perimetry) is valuable in assisting in the early detection of many diseases such as Glaucoma, Optic Neuritis, Retinal Detachments, Macular Degeneration and neurological lesions that may affect your vision in ways you may not notice until the condition has become severe. In some cases Perimetry may be the only effective way of detecting these problems.

Tonometry is used to measure the pressure of the eye to detect signs of Glaucoma. As part of your routine examination our optometrist will take a few readings for each eye, using a NCT. This is both non-invasive and painless.
