OCT SCANS

Our Topcon Triton DRI enables us to take highly advanced 3D scans of the back of the eye, right down to individual cell layers. Regular OCT scans help us to screen your eyes for potentially serious conditions such as glaucoma, diabetes and age-related macular degeneration. Detecting changes in their infancy puts us in a better position to deal with them more effectively, thereby ensuring your eyes are as healthy as they can be going forwards. OCT scans give us an invaluable record of the health and condition of your eyes. It is non invasive and takes only a few moments. OCT scans are included as part of your First Contact Care Plan and are carried out during your examination. The scans can be assessed immediately and the results discussed with you during your appointment.

                                                 PHOROPTER

BRAND NEW - The Vision-R 800 is a revolutionary piece of equipment that changes how we measure your prescription. Traditionally this would have been done by placing a trial frame on your face and inserting and removing a series of lenses. This was time consuming, the frames were rarely comfortable and looking through a number of lenses at a time did impact the quality of vision. The Vision R-800 is suspended from an arm, meaning that it does not sit on your face, rather you sit behind it.  It has a liquid lens which means it is almost silent and provides far better vision quality. It is fitted with state of the art smart technology that means we can perform a more accurate and efficient examination, measuring to an accuracy of 0.01D (previously we could only measure your prescription in 0.25D steps). This will allow us to manufacture lenses to the same level of accuracy, providing you with better vision than ever before.

TOPOGRAPHER

Our Medmont E300 topographer is used to measure the curvature of the front surface of the eye. This is important to know when fitting contact lenses, as knowing how round the front of the eyes are allows us to choose the best fitting contact lenses for you. This is especially important when fitting specialist lenses such as Ortho-K as the lenses are custom made to fit each eye specifically. The Medmont acts like a video camera, constantly capturing images, allowing us to pick the best image from a selection of a few. It is quiet, non-invasive and is very easily used on children.

VISUAL FIELDS

Our Henson 9000 visual field screener is used to measure peripheral vision. This means that when you are looking straight ahead, it measures what you can see all around you. Certain eye conditions such as glaucoma, certain medications and some general health conditions can affect peripheral vision. In the early stages the change will not be noticeable to the patient and by the time the patient becomes aware of it the changes are far more advanced. This is why we perform visual field screening as part of our routine eye examination.

It is a key tool in determining the health of your eyes and detecting eye disease . This is an extremely useful instrument to have as it allows us to collect a series of images which we can then use to monitor the health of the eyes.

It will clean and exfoliate your eyelids and lashes, which will almost immediately improve your symptoms. The patented micro-sponge is disposable and a clean one is used for each individual eyelid so bacteria is not spread between the lids. The eyes are rinsed well afterwards. The procedure lasts about 6 -8 minutes and is well tolerated, with most patients simply reporting a tickling sensation.
